Oceania Dairy are delighted that Roncalli student, Luke Tucker, has been awarded the 2019 scholarship. Luke will receive an annual payment of $3,000 for up to three years, as well as the opportunity for paid work experience during study breaks. Luke is commencing his studies towards a BSc (Bachelor of Science) majoring in Chemistry at Otago University in 2019.
For the last two years Luke has lived in Waimate and attended Roncalli College in Timaru. Prior to this Luke spent five years in Tianjin, China. Luke is able to speak conversational mandarin Chinese, is passionate about Chemistry and is eager to work in a Laboratory environment.
Luke joins recipients; Joe Martin (2018), Tara Willans (2017), Tayne MacMillan (2016) and Dion Batchelor (2015).
“Having our scholarship student’s work within the business over their semester breaks is important part of our selection criteria” said Acting General Manager, Richard Hickson. “Staff really enjoy having them back, they are an integral part of our company and are valued members of the Oceania Dairy team”.
Oceania Dairy strongly believe the scholarship is an important part of their commitment to the communities in which it operates. This year Oceania Dairy extended the application eligibility to include residence in the Timaru District; resulting in more applications this year than any other year.
The Oceania Scholarship is available to young people within the Waimate, Waitaki and Timaru Districts who are completing their secondary schooling and about to move into further education or training.
The scholarship targets education or training that can lead the recipient into a career in the dairy industry or that has the potential to enhance relationships between New Zealand and China.
