OCEANIA DAIRY NAMED FINALIST IN HIGH PROFILE BUSINESS AWARDS

Oceania Dairy Limited has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Champion Canterbury Business Awards.

A record number of 196 entries were received for the prestigious annual business awards that showcase the region’s business talent, innovation and diversity. The finalists were announced last night.

Oceania Dairy is one of three finalists in the medium/large enterprise section of the Producer/Manufacturer category. This category recognises innovative primary production/agribusiness and sophisticated, high-end manufacturing.

Oceania Dairy has established a $236 million milk processing plant at Glenavy to process milk from local farmers into export quality milk powder.

In just 15 months to August 2014, Oceania Dairy’s developed its greenfields site into a state-of-the-art infant formula and milk powder processing facility. By the time the first milk was received at the factory staff numbers had grown to more than 70. Staff now number 90, making Oceania Dairy one of South Canterbury’s largest employers.

During its first full season in production the Glenavy factory received and processed 206 million litres of milk from 49 local supply farmers. The production of milk powder and cream for export to China generated $90 million of export revenue.

A further five-year development programme at Glenavy was announced in November 2014.

“The team at Oceania Dairy is delighted to have their efforts recognised by the judges at the Champion Canterbury Business Awards,” said Roger Usmar, General Manager of Oceania Dairy Limited.

“It is a tribute to the hard-work, dedication and efficiency of Oceania’s operations that we were able to move so quickly from a greenfields site to full production at the Glenavy plant.

“We are now looking forward to the commencement of our second season of production and the roll-out of our five-year expansion project at the plant,” he said.

Winners of the 2015 Champion Canterbury Business Awards will be announced on Wednesday 16 September, 2015.
